Best week ever
Howdy!
Holy cow this week has been pretty good. It's had its up's and downs
but the up's far outweigh the downs!
To start this email out I'll give ya the bad news. Last Friday morning
we got a call from our branch mission leader in Hugo, he told us that
one of our recent converts that I taught, Derek Thomas, was arrested
the previous day. Apparently the day before he made the choice to
purchase some alcohol and get drunk. Well alcohol = bad decisions and
he did some pretty gnarly things to get him locked up. We don't know
yet how long he'll be in country jail but some members of the branch
think it will be a long while before he's released. It's such a bummer
because he wanted to go to the Temple so bad this coming Friday with
the rest of the Stake. Unfortunately he fell into that temptation and
is now paying the consequences. The important lesson to learn here is
even the strongest members can fall into temptation. No one is exempt.
There's no denying that Satan is good at what he does. He knows each
of our weakness' and will do everything he can to "drag [us] down to
the gulf of misery and endless wo". Alma 30:60 teaches that Satan
"will not support his children at the last day, but doth speedily drag
them down to hell." You will not and cannot benefit from anything
Satan "offers" you. Thankfully there's a certain scripture in ether
12:27 that reassures us, "And if men come unto me I will show unto
them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble;
and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before
me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me,
then will I make weak things become strong unto them." God takes weak
people and can make them become strong when we align our will with
His, humble ourselves, have faith, and come unto Him. I've seen it in
my life, in the life of my investigators and I know you can see that
in your lives too!
On the other side of things, WE HAD A BAPTISM! We set it in the middle
of the week with Frank & Sue Perras! We usually don't set dates that
soon but they wanted to attend the temple this coming Friday with all
their friends so we had it this past weekend so that they'd be able to
go! Which means this Friday there will be 4 or 5 people I taught and
baptized headed to the temple! That's what it's all about, going to
the temple! :D
Last cool thing that happened this week was we got a call from our
branch mission leader and told us there was a guy named James who's
investigated the church for quite some time. He's engaged to a girl
who a member of our branch and he's decided to be baptized! They got
married today so he can have his baptism this Saturday!
Also we have another investigator, Nick, who's finally been approved
to be baptized! He had to wait a little bit due to some things but the
good news is he's finally gonna be able to join the church! So look
forward to those photos on Facebook. God definitely has his hand in
His work here in Paris and Hugo. I'm grateful to be able to be here at
such a time! This week my little brother leaves to the MTC, then he
heads his way out to Seattle Washington. I can not wait to be serving
at the same time as him! It may not be the same place, and that's
okay, I just can't wait to see him having the same exact experience's
that can only be experienced while on a mission! This work is true!
If you don't believe, then read the Book of Mormon, get to church, and
pray! It's that simple! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints is Christ's church restored to this earth. It's the only church
with the fullness of the gospel and is the most true church on the
face of the earth. The work will never stop cease, but only go
forward! Thomas S. Monson is a prophet of God. I'll end with 1 Nephi
14:10 "Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church
of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil;
wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God
belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations;
and she is the whore of all the earth."
There is NO middle ground. "Choose ye this day, whom ye will serve."
Hopefully y'all have had as great of a week as I did! Make sure to say
goodbye to Carson if you haven't, be sure to pray for my parents,
it'll be an emotional day Wednesday! ;)
Adios!
Love,
Elder Hyatt
