#3ToGo

Holy Lanta! This has been an awesome week here in the TDM...
To start this off we had a member named Brother Evans move into the ward a couple weeks ago. He had been working at the MTC training missionaries for the past 8 years! He also helped with the developmental side of things. IE, he helped get us the smartphones, facebook, etc. So he knows a crap ton of things about missionaries!
We invited him to come teach the rest of our district awesome things so he came and he asked us one question: “What is keeping your area from becoming its own stake?”.
On a piece of paper he had us list every reason as to why our areas aren’t stakes. One reason Elder Laris and I wrote down was “people already have their own church.”.
Brother Evans then taught us about how that's not a problem but can be a huge asset!
Case and point:

This week we had a member referral named Jared. He has his own tv show called “Night Crew”, its a hunting show. Anyways he is VERY knowledgeable with the Bible and all sorts of theology. Instead of listening to music he listens to religious debates and right now he’s been focusing a lot on LDS beliefs, which is why he wanted to meet with us. He bought us dinner and then we proceeded to talk religion. At first it was a lot of question and answer with a hint of clearing up a few misconceptions and myths.
We then talked a little bit about Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, and the usual LDS specific doctrine that we believe.
A month ago I would have been terrified to speak with him, especially with how much he already knows about the Bible. But a few weeks prior to this lesson when Brother Evans was training us he told us that the people who are already committed to a church, or who know so much about the Bible make awesome converts! Because of their knowledge and influence on their own churches they in turn make amazing missionaries once they learn the restored gospel and receive an answer that its true.
So with that in mind Elder Laris and I were able to comfortably, calmly, and boldly testify of the truths of the restored gospel.
It must have worked pretty well because he wanted to meet with us as soon as possible again to continue to discuss! He admitted at the end of the lesson that we taught him things he had never learned before.
It was the coolest thing to experience the promise in D&C 100:5-6;
“5: Therefore, verily I say unto you, lift up your voices unto this people; speak the thoughts that I shall put into your hearts, and you shall not be confounded before men;
6: For it shall be given you in the very hour, yea, in the very moment, what ye shall say.”

I know without a doubt that the spirit helped us answer Jared’s honest and sincere questions! Me specifically, I quoted scriptures with their references that I hadn’t read in a while, asked inspired questions, and shared quotes from our Prophets and Apostles that helped Jared understand the gospel. I literally felt the spirit put into my mind the things I needed to say, it was awesome!

This experience also reminded me of D&C 11:21 “21 Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word, and then shall your tongue be loosed”.
It is very important to take our scripture study serious and do make it a priority! I always tell people that if you want to speak to God then pray, but if you want God to speak to you then read your Scriptures. The scriptures contain the things that we need to know to return to God, especially the Book of Mormon. Heck it was written for OUR day. So that's my invite, make scripture study a vital part of your daily routine. You’ll only be blessed for doing so! :)

Tomorrow starts the beginning of my 3rd to last transfer. 4.5 months left. Holy crap I dont know what to think haha. Oh, also I’m not being transferred, Elder Laris and I are staying together, and we’re now covering Sherman Texas and Celina Texas...So we’re gonna be doing a lot of driving, which reminds me we got our car back! :) love yall!!!
