Weeeeekly update
Hello friends and family! So here's the update going on down here!
Monday: Monday was a mix of a lot of things hahah. Biggest news as you probably already know is I got transferred! Elder Hinton and I couldn't believe it, sooo many great things were happening in Plano. He got transferred to a place called casa Linda and I got banished up to Oklahoma again, this time in a city called Durant. Me getting transferred back to Oklahoma again has got me thinking I was less valiant in heaven or something, idk....hahah jkjk.
Tuesday: We met our trainee's on Tuesday! Each time a set of new missionaries come in the departing missionaries come into the room for a little bit to discuss what the departing missionaries wish they would have known at the beginning of their mission. Well with my luck the departing missionaries were the missionaries I came out with from the MTC. Hahahha so needless to say it made me a little trunky seeing all the guys I came out with finish, but all is well! Anyways, my trainee's name is Elder Taylor. He's fresh outta high school and from Hooper, Utah. He reminds me a lot of myself when i first started out!
Wednesday: We had our first full day out in Durant and it was a pretty good day. We found 4 new investigators, hopefully something comes of them this week, we'll see! Other than our new investigators nothing too interesting happened.
Thursday: Our district drove down to Frisco to have interviews with President Dalton and we also had our first district meeting as a new district. I'm in what they call either a "sistrict" or a "relief society" which means Elder Taylor and I are the only Elders. We got 6 sisters total so it should be interesting haha. Anyways long story short I asked President Dalton if i could swing back down to Plano to pick up my bike so that we could save miles in Durant. He said sure so the rest of our day consisted of us picking up my bike and dealing with the Dallas construction traffic essentially the whole way back to Durant.
Friday: Friday was another day full of finding people. We didn't have really any lists to go off of, but we made it by. President Dalton has made it a goal for each companionship to find a new investigator each day. Well it was like 8:30pm and we didnt want to knock doors cause that just makes people mad...so we drove to where people were and started street contacting. Well it was time to get home and no one was interested. We started walking back to our car and I saw a family waiting in line to order some Taco Bell. Figured they were trapped and had no other option but to roll their window down and talk to us. Chatted to them for a second and they really liked the concept of the Book of Mormon. We got their address and set up a return appointment.. we plugged their address into our area book to find out they live less than a mile out of our mission boundaries 😩 so we referred them off to the Oklahoma City mission lol.
Saturday: Really really weird day.... essentially we dropped by some people who the missionaries have been teaching a little bit. They let us right in and told us they believed in the Book of Mormon to be the word of god. And they believed Joseph smith to be a prophet. But the only concern they had was they had a theory that the church today was not the church Joseph smith had restored. They think somewhere along the lines it apostatized. But it was only his theory. When asked if he had prayed about if Joseph smith was a prophet he said yes. When asked if he had prayed about our modern day prophet and apostles he said no. So we invited him to do that and to watch some of Conference haha.
Sunday: Had our first church meeting and holy lanta I swear, the most funky of doctrine gets taught in Oklahoma😂😂😂I won't go into detail but we were talking with the bishop and he said that today's fast and testimony meeting wasn't even that bad. He had to get up twice to correct someone's doctrine they shared in their testimonies hahah.. Anyways our investigators still enjoyed and understood things after we clarified.
So far the area isn't too bad. It's nice too go to bed again to the sound of gun shots and cows :) hahah really tho, I'm happy to be back in Oklahoma. It's one of the more unique areas in the mission! Happy and humbled to be training and i hope that i can fulfill this calling! Let me know if theres ever anything i can do for y'all! Love you
Elder Hyatt
P.S: Durant is a lot safer than Hugo, so don't worry about me. (Mom)
