Where did the week go?

April 16, 2018

So like the subject line says, another week just flew by!!!
Was not expecting that haha. Well here’s some of that happened this week. Last Monday we taught a lady named Katrina. She is super big into family history and was apart of the 2018 rootstech convention that the church hosts every year in SLC. A year ago her cousin pranked her by sending the missionaries over. She basically dropped them because they weren’t answering her questions. So we come back a year later and this time around we focused on answering her questions. A lot of them pertained to family history and temple work for our ancestors. The spirit was super strong and it all started to make sense to her! The spirit of Elijah was working hard in that lesson! We committed her to be baptized in Mid May! The funniest part, I think, of those whole experience is that her Cousin who pranked her by sending missionaries over in the first place is a guy named James Sharp. Well I taught and baptized James a year ago!!!! So now I'm teaching his cousin in Sherman, haha small world.

Another highlight was on Friday we were teaching a recent convert, part member family. The recent convert hasn’t been to church in months. She was baptized in Gainesville and then moved to Sherman. She didn’t send her records over so no one knew she was here until finally a friend in the Gainesville Ward reached out to the Sherman wards leadership. So we’ve been teaching her and her non-member husband for some time. His name is Richard and he has told me and other missionaries that I am his favorite missionary. Haha so all that means is i can be a bit more upfront about things with him and he’ll take it cause of the friendship we’ve built. So on Friday we talked about keeping the sabbath day holy. Richard was pretty quiet during the whole lesson but we FINALLY committed his wife, Jessica, to come back to church!!! So that was huge. But afterwords right before we left Richard stood up and said “I normally wouldn’t ask this, but I need your guys prayers to help me get a job.”. Immediately in my mind the thought came to me, “this guys totally asking for a blessing” but before I could get that out his wife, Jessica blurted out “sounds like you need a priesthood blessing!”. Haha so we sat him down and gave him the blessing. He picked me as voice and the spirit directed me to give him a pretty specific blessing.  The miracle of this story is this guys heart is usually super hardened towards the church but this time around he was humble enough to receive a blessing. And after the blessing the just sat there in his chair thinking (probably having an identity crisis cause he felt the spirit so much haha), and so we asked how he felt. He replied that he was oddly enough at peace. For the rest of the 5 minutes we were in their home he was just silently praying. So that as a major breakthrough for us!!!!!! :D

On Saturday we attended a funeral in Durant. A member and his 9yr old daughter got t-boned by a semi truck crossing a highway last Monday and died. I served in Durant and got to know this family pretty well and it hurt to hear the news. We helped out with the funeral and even got to sing “Battle hymn of the republic” to the crowd. Super spiritual funeral. So afterwords we headed back to Sherman and later the Durant missionaries met us in Denison tx to do a baptismal interview for a kid named Isaac Jordy. He’s being baptized on Saturday!!! So be on the lookout for that post.

Overall a super great week. Can’t complain about anything! With 8 weeks to go this seems a bit surreal.

Love each of y'all so much. Let me know if there is anything I can do for any of you! :D

Most of these photos are from that place called the frontier village.
It reminds me a lot of pioneer village in lagoon. Lots of old houses.
They had us tear apart a stage this week!
