I'm Leaving Texas?!?!
Holy freaking cow....
This has been one of the weirdest and interesting weeks on my mission!
So like I said last week, I got transferred from Rockwall & Royse City
:( it was seriously sooo hard to leave since I came to love the people
we were teaching and the area so much. The members there were amazing
and got to know so many of them and build friendships. But anyways I
got moved to the "Promised Land" AKA East Texas!!! I'm out here in
Paris Texas. Which is in the north eastern part of the state. It's
soooo country out here, so I love that! I like to think of myself a
bit of a country guy hahah. The other cool thing about my new area is
I also cover the Hugo, Oklahoma branch! Which means I get to leave
Texas to go do work up there! :D never been to Oklahoma before so it
was awesome to be able to work as a missionary up there! Speaking of
my area, just to give you an idea of how big my area is; its larger
than the entire Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex! It's freaking huge! Top
to bottom it'd take about 3 hours to drive!
So anyways the work here is wayyyy different than I've ever
experienced. It seems like a lot of people out here have word of
wisdom issues, bless their hearts. There's just nothing to do so
drinking and smoking/drugs are people's outlets sadly. But everyone is
so nice.
We have quite a large teaching pool, the only problem is we don't have
nearly enough miles to teach everyone. So this week were gonna start
using all our resources to teach those far away. Thank heavens for
Facebook!!! Everyone who doesn't get to use it on their mission should
be jealous >:) it's such a useful missionary tool. You can find and
teach multiple people at a time and all we gotta do is have wi-fi

To be quite frank I had MULTIPLE awkward/scary/cool experiences this
week. But these 2 kinda stuck out to me.
1) We have an Eternagator (eternal investigator, been meeting with
missionaries for a while) named Derek. I kid you not this guy knows
the Book of Mormon better than me, or any other missionary I know.
This guy basically has it memorized from front to cover. He taught me
a little lol, not gonna lie. His testimony of the BOM and the D&C are
super strong but he just won't commit to baptism. :/ So we gotta try
to figure out how to go about that...
2) There was a member that took us out to dinner and wanted to drop by
a member he used to visit with the missionaries. So we had time to
kill so we thought whatever, and we went. Her name is Gloria and she's
also an Eternagator. She's been meeting with missionaries forever. But
she dropped us about 2 months ago. So we were kinda expecting her to
answer the door and yell "not interested". But she saw us and totally
lit up! She hung up the phone and promptly welcomed us in. She
explained how she's been struggling lately and feeling like God isn't
listening to her prayers. Life just has been tough recently. So we had
a great little spiritual thought about prayer and how even tho we turn
our lives to Christ that doesn't mean that things will be perfect. I
explained that it just means that during those hard times we have
Christ to lift us up and help us to keep pushing forward. She was very
emotional and said "you know, I just realized you guys were the answer
to my prayer. Thank you so much for taking time to visit me.". It was
so awesome to see her so suddenly connect the dots and realize that.
It grew my testimony that other people can be the answer to my
prayers. I don't have to have a huge spiritual experience to receive
an answer. Prayers are answered sometimes very differently so we gotta
pay attention and not just shrug something off like coincidence, which
I feel like happens all too often.
throw at me! Until next time,
